Back in October, our church, Girdwood Chapel, held a special service to bless the animals. The blessing of the animals is in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi, who had a love for all of God's creatures. Assisi wrote the hymn, All Creatures of Our God and King. Pet owners were invited to bring their animals to receive a prayer of blessing. In previous years cats, dogs, reptiles and other small furry animals have participated. This year it was two dogs and a cat. At the time we were caring for Chase (the white fluffy cat) and Duke (the German Shepherd) so we brought both of them. In addition, Hurley (the Terrier) was also blessed.
