Update on Life November 2013

We have been living a full life in Alaska since 2009. We love our life, our friends, the beauty that is so evident, and our church. In many ways we are content and blessed. We have been serving as the Host Couple at Birchwood Camp in Chugiak, AK since 2010. While serving in this capacity we've also had a wide variety of jobs and adventures. Both of us just turned 40 and with this milestone we find ourselves reflecting on our life. For the past few years we have tossed around many ideas about vocational and ministry opportunities to explore. We have had many questions but very few answers. In asking God for wisdom about what we should pursue next, He impressed upon Liz's heart that we will not get clarity without taking steps to explore possibilities. Areas that are of interest to us include: ministry in the Czech Republic, film, pastoral ministry, working with internationals, etc.

In a few days we set out on our first journey of exploration. We will be going to Prague, Czech Republic from November 8-25 in what we are calling a ministry exploration trip. We will stay with 3 hosts from Prague Christian Fellowship, meet with several pastors and missionaries, and assist with various ministries, ESL ministry, meeting/praying with women on the streets, ex-offenders, university students, young couples, film, etc. We are asking God to clearly speak to us during this trip. Liz has had a burden for the Czech people for much of her life...she had a pen-pal from CZ in high school, visited there in 1995 on a college study trip, we took a trip there together in 2001, had a CZ neighbor in NY, and Liz even connected with a CZ woman and got a few CZ lessons in AK! Throughout the years her interest in the Czech Republic has not waned. I tend to have a transferable burden for anyone that I am working with at the time. We are hoping to come away from this experience having a sense of what this Czech burden has been about... whether God is calling us to go there long-term, develop partnerships there, or simply to pray more intentionally.

Then in February, we are hoping to intern for 3 weeks with the film crew of an upcoming movie. Someone who went Liz's Alma Mater is currently raising funds for this film to be shot in Texas.

We would appreciate your prayer in these areas. We love most everything about our lives in Alaska. We are not looking to leave anytime soon. At the same time, we desire to pursue whatever God has for us.
