On Friday evening (Nov. 15), we took the Metro to Christian International School of Prague (CISP). There we joined roughly 15 people from various denominations who all have a burden to reach out to those who are caught up in human trafficking. There were church leaders, parachurch leaders, and even a human rights lawyer. After brief introductions, we spent time in worship and intercessory prayer.
After this, we went with a small group to another location where we met with others who also have a burden for this issue. Among them was a woman who formerly was involved as an actress in the porn film industry. As a result of this demeaning work, she became depressed and contemplated suicide. In the midst of her brokenness, she found Jesus, or in her words, "Jesus found her!" She did a 180, and now she is involved with an organization that reaches out to those in the sex industry. She describes pornography as an entry level drug for human trafficking, creating a demand for prostitutes. Many people get caught up in the violent tentacles of this industry.
We went with this group to a seedy part of town. Some female members of the team stopped outside of a brothel where they had befriended a number of prostitutes. They asked about their children by name, their health (one of the women had most of her teeth knocked out since their last visit), and how they could pray for them. One of the women was very grateful for the connection and prayer. Another was involved in the occult, and didn't want out because of the power it gave her.
Down the street a bit further, we connected with a Nigerian man whose job was to direct people to the sex shows, located near a brothel. While he realized that this was not the best job, he rationalized his involvement as a short term job until he gets on his feet, and can return to Nigeria. Liz conducted an impromptu career counseling session, asking him what he thought God made him to do. He readily acknowledged that his current role wasn't what God made him to do.
This evening, our eyes were opened to a complex industry involving multiple countries, threats of violence against family members, curses that have real-world power unless broken, and wounded people at every level. Join us in praying for all those caught up in this industry.
