Thanksgivings are usually spent with extended family. But this year, we're a bit far away from our family to do this. We decided to make the most of Thanksgiving in Girdwood. On Wednesday night we joined several dozen locals at the fire hall for a Community Thanksgiving Dinner, potluck style. We connected with a number of friends and sampled from the bounty of turkey (five of them) and all the trimmings.

Then on Thursday morning, we woke up to quite a bit of snow! We had our friends, Matt and Laura, over for a Thanks- giving lunch.
We cooked our turkey breast in the crock pot (highly recommended if you are into super-moist turkey). We were inspired by the RV Cooking Show's Annual Thanksgiving Edition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGzrgoXX1c0.
Before we ate, we wrote down things for which we are thankful and put them in a "gratitude box." Then we gave thanks to God, sang the Doxology (as is the tradition of our family in PA) and ate. In between the meal and dessert, we passed the box and read our offerings of gratitude.
We had a great time, and the food (turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, pumpkin pie, pumpkin roll and delicious coffee drinks) was good too. This year we are very thankful that we live in Girdwood and are surrounded by friends and a supportive community. We thought this song really sums up our thanks to God: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgZEgr9yHds.
