The calendar may say it's spring and various places in the lower 48 may be balmy, but in parts of Alaska, it's still winter. I (Liz) am delighted with the long winters here (October - April) as I always felt that NY winters were too short. Today it has been snowing all day :). I don't have any pictures from today, but here are some pictures from the last major snow storm.
Top picture: Snow berms on the side of the bike path along the Alyeska Highway. The berms reached about 6 feet tall at the peak of the season. Last year the news broadcasters warned parents to be careful about letting their children walk on the tops of the berms (the berms were so high you could practically touch the overhead power lines).
Second picture: Liz in the snow, a dream fulfilled...Growing up in Oregon there was only one occasion where I can remember being in this much snow.

ReplyDeleteGood job Liz, thanks for posting while so much change is going on. We are really looking forward to seeing the new place - How about a nice photo tour?

Hi Colette,
ReplyDeleteSpring here is called "break-up" because all the snow is melting. It's also known as "MUD season." We are so glad we have Muck boots (great for rain, snow and many inches of mud)!
