My good friend, Laura, (who is originally from Ohio) and I (Liz) have had some fun adventures. About a month ago we enjoyed snow shoeing through the Four Meadows - akin to the secret garden but it is a series of meadows instead.
The meadows are behind houses and take a while to find. Once located, they offer many picturesque views. One meadow leads to another through narrow wooded passageways. When you are in the Four Meadows you feel like you are the only person in Alaska because you are surrounded by mountains and trees on every side. During the summer the area is soft and marshy and the bears are rampant, so winter is the optimal time to explore the meadows.
In Alaska it is not uncommon to see large footprints. We encountered moose tracks on this trek. We also found many moose droppings, which look like small chocolate Easter eggs, but don't taste as good, from what I'm told. Another discovery we made was moose hair hanging off of tree branches.
We were in awe of this beautiful sunset during our hike. The sun rises and sets slowly in AK, so we had lots of time to enjoy this.
Looks like lots of fun!! So much snow! When do you start to see signs of Spring? Blessings!! Colette
