Little Ditty

We spent several weeks scouring Craigslist for a small, affordable, gently used 4x4 SUV. We're not huge fans of SUV's, but it makes sense to own one here in Alaska. Liz and I found a car we wanted to test drive at Harvest Motors in the Palmer-Wasilla area about an hour and a half away. We test drove a Suzuki Sidekick, but both felt like it was going to tip over when we went around corners. Then we test drove a Chevy Tracker. We liked the way it handled, and it was reasonably priced. After filling out the paperwork, the dealer (who had been a pastor for 30 years) pulled out his anointing oil and prayed for the car and for us! It was about as close to buying a car from Grandpa as we could get. We named the car "Little Ditty" after her license plate (which begins with "DTY," and the name seems to fit. So far we're getting 24 mpg, not exactly Prius-like, but not too bad for a vehicle with four wheel drive. That's Liz's parents beside Little Ditty.

  1. Man I miss you guys- I wonder. . . tonight was new moon ( or really close to it and sooooo dark at like 7, here in New Jersey. So tell us about the daylight- that would be a cool featurette- hours of daylight. But don't do it if it means that puppy of the day gets bumped!

  2. Dad & I had such a wonderful time with both of you for the week we were there. We think Girdwood
is like a type of Shangri-La.....o.k. maybe there
is a little difference in the weather but the
warmth of that community is undeniable. We are so proud of both of you and this great adventure that you're experiencing. Looking forward to
the next visit up there in the land of the "last
    frontier"!
