Our friend, Kevin Reece, from Nyack, NY came to visit us in June. It was a busy season for Brent with Census travels, but we still managed to have fun with Kevin. We enjoyed canoeing on Psalm Lake at the camp. One morning Brent and Kevin kayaked on the glassy surface of the lake. The Loons, an endangered species, were out that morning. We also enjoyed an extensive tour of the Alaska Native Heritage Center Museum. One evening we enjoyed smores around the campfire - smores always taste better on a beach with a friend nearby.
Kevin had his choice of places to stay and he opted for Sourdough. Sourdough is a rustic cabin at the camp heated by a wood stove and one of the furthest cabins from running water and the bath house. Originally, we thought we would tell Kevin that the nearest bathroom was an outhouse on the other side of the lake accessible only by boat, but then we decided that it wasn't a nice way to treat a guest. Kevin, who is originally from Barbados is very easy going, so he probably would have been fine with this arrangement :).

During part of the time that Kevin was here, Brent was deployed to Barrow (see a previous post) for an intense assignment. While Brent was gone Kevin pet sat for friends in Girdwood. He especially enjoyed connecting with our good friends, Matt & Laura and going on many adventures including a 6 hour cruise, hiking, etc.
