Sitka

I (Brent) had the opportunity to do Census 2010 work in Sitka, which is located in southeast Alaska. Sitka has a lot of history.

In 1867, Seward purchased Alaska from Russia. This transaction took place in Sitka.

There is a historical blending of Native Alaskans, Russians, and those who have moved into the area in the past century.

The climate in Sitka reminded me of the Pacific NW, very lush. This area gets a lot of rainfall, is quite green and boasts some beautiful plant life.

It was not uncommon to see flower gardens like this.

This picture does not give a good representation of the size of these plants. I would estimate that some of the leaves on this plant are 3-4 feet long!
