Coming To A Theater Near You

About a month and a half ago we auditioned to be extras in the movie, Everybody Loves Whales. The movie is loosely based on the events that happened in Barrow, AK in 1988 when three gray whales became trapped under the ice.

While Brent's brother, Quay, was visiting us in September, we got a call from the film company asking us if would be willing to act as tourists from 1988. We asked if Quay could join us and they obliged. So we spent a couple hours in Value Village and picked out the fine 1988 style ensembles pictured above. We can't say very much about the film in a public forum, but if you Google it, you will soon learn who is in the movie.

We have thoroughly enjoyed watching the film-making process firsthand. Since the filming day with Quay, we have been called upon twice and will probably be involved with half a dozen more shoots. We have been surprised at how sizable a production this is. Scores of crew members, caterers, makeup, hair, wardrobe, etc. people came up from CA for this movie, it's a big deal.

This film is significant because it takes place in AK and is being filmed in AK. Most films and TV shows about AK were shot somewhere else. Northern Exposure (a story about a doctor from NY who moves to a small town in AK) is a favorite of mine (Liz), though many Alaskans do not like it because it was filmed in WA, rather than AK.

We find it rather humorous that we lived an hour from NYC for 10 years, yet were never cast in a movie, yet, we come to Alaska and get "our big break" as extras!

The movie is scheduled to be released in 2012. Quay is apparently planning to wear his 80's outfit he wore in the movie to the opening night... we will probably do the same :).

  4. We're posting a few days after this entry and have noticed they've added more actors since first reading about the movie. Hope you're having fun "on set", you guys. What fun to see
for yourselves how a movie is produced.
