Yesterday as I (Brent) was clearing some trees from the side of the road leading to the camp (in preparation for winter snow plowing), I noticed little white flakes falling from the sky. After an hour or so, there was a thin layer of snow on the ground. For the past month, we've seen termination dust (the first snowfall seen on the mountain tops signifying the termination of summer), but we've not had any appreciable snow that remained on the ground for any length of time.
This morning when we woke up, the snow remained on the ground. One of the things we noticed right away was that things are much brighter. The snow reflects the light and brightens up the inside of our home as well as the outside. We welcome this brightness and we look forward to this winter.
But for now it just has a thin layer of ice on it. It will eventually freeze over for ice skating and cross-country skiing. Last year there was also a snow maze on the lake - fun things to look forward to! In case you're wondering, winter in Alaska is typically October - April. The official seasons on the calendar (e.g. first day of winter) don't really apply here.
We really like seeing where you live....lovely

branches in the 2nd pic look like they're in 3-D!
Amazing that Psalm Lake is starting to freeze over. Beautiful pictures.
