For my (Brent) final "Remote" Census operation, (technically called NRFU Res. - Non-Response Follow Up Residual) I was sent to the huge area surrounding Denali National Park. I couldn't have picked a better August day for travelling. There was road construction along the way (Many Alaskans refer to "Construction" as one of the two seasons, along with Winter. Some add a third season which follows - Mud, also known as Breakup). The pictures above are some of what I saw as I was driving up to Denali.
Then, after checking in at the hotel, I saw this unusual cloud formation (bright as day in the foreground, ominously dark in the background.
After traveling a hundred or so miles while enumerating in the Denali National Park area over the next day and a half, I drove the four plus hours back home. Denali, known by those in the lower 48 as "Mt. McKinley" was out in all her splendor. What an amazing sight. Denali is the highest peak in North America at 20, 320 feet. The upper two thirds of it is covered year round by snow and glaciers.
Terrific pictures! So clear & vibrant. There doesn't appear to be a smidgeon of air pollution.
ReplyDeleteGreat camera work, Brent.
