Because of the long summer days, photosynthesis can occur almost 24 hours a day. This leads to some of the largest veggies we've ever seen. Liz is sitting beside a cabbage that is about 90 pounds. These are the small veggies from the first week of the fair. The second week, they were expecting record breaking 120-130 pound cabbages and 800 pound pumpkins! Grandma, how many pumpkin pies would that make? We also heard the Beach
Boys, but only from outside the amphitheater. I think Liz's favorite part were the animals, particularly the baby animals. We spent quite some time looking at the piglets, goats, rabbits, etc. Liz mentioned afterward that when she is with small animals, she gets energized and feels really happy. Long live the baby animals! The Alaska State Fair is definitely worth visiting.
