This past week we have had a lot of snow. It came in two waves. A few days ago, I woke up to the sound of the wind blowing the door open and snow blowing into the room. I leaped out of bed and closed the door and marveled at the high winds and snow blowing almost horizontally. We heard that the snow was falling at a rate of 3 inches per hour. Then it snowed again, about 2 feet. It's hard to estimate how much snow there is on the ground at this point, but we think it is somewhere around 4 feet. We are amazed at how little the snow affects local schools and businesses. We have yet to hear of a school closing due to weather. However, even the best snow removal equipment can't keep a road open when there is an avalanche. Recently the Seward Highway, the only road out of Girdwood, was closed both north and southbound for several hours due to avalanches.

ReplyDeleteYou always did love snow, Liz, and it appears your still lovin' it. I assume the super-duper
ReplyDeletesnow removal plow is responsible for nearly
covering the Cortina road sign. One would not
want to park their car along side the road for
long, for fear of not finding it til June!
May you be blessed with many snow angels.
To Anonymous Bill,
ReplyDelete....and perhaps the reason why bears stay in caves til Spring.
