A Mother's Day Surprise

In May I (Liz) flew to New York for a whirlwind trip (less than a week) to get our co-op ready to sublease. Most of my time was spent sorting through our belongings with the goal of purging stuff we don't need anymore. It's amazing how much a married couple can accumulate in 11 years!

The highlight of my NY trip was on Mother's Day. Most of Brent's family knew that I was coming to get our co-op ready, but I thought it would be neat to surprise Brent's mom, Carol (pictured above in a coffee shop in Alaska), on Mother's Day. I went to St. Paul's UMC in Ocean Grove, NJ, where I knew everyone would be. I spotted Carol's golden locks and then I walked down the aisle to where she was sitting. I came and sat next to her, tapped her on the shoulder and then said, "Happy Mother's Day" at which point she squealed with joy. I had reached my goal in truly surprising her, what fun :)!

It was also great to connect with the rest of Brent's family. Pictured above is Bonnie Asay (brother-in-law's mother), Tasha (Brent's sister), niece Emma, and me.
