One of the perks to living in Alaska is the long ski season all the way into April. At the end of the ski season, the snow quality is less than ideal. It turns into slush. As a culmination of the ski season, Alyeska Resort in Girdwood hosts the Slush Cup.
Competitors dress in outlandish costumes with the goal of skiing down Mt. Alyeska and skimming across a 90-foot long pool of ice cold water! We went to this year's event but forgot our camera, so these are from last year's event.
This guy made quite a splash.

Some of the most creative contestants this year included: Pippi Longstockings, Paul Bunyan (skiing down on stilts) and a bride-to-be wearing her wedding dress!
One of the most amazing stunts we saw was a person riding a snow machine (aka snowmobile for those in the Lower 48) across the 90-foot long pool of water without sinking! Check out the video footage.
