Many people in the lower 48 have not heard of Unalaska, but most have heard of Dutch Harbor, thanks to the show, The Deadliest Catch. Technically, Dutch Harbor is a harbor in Unalaska, but a lot of people just call the whole area Dutch Harbor.
While there, I saw lots of bald eagles (probably a hundred or more per day!). They were on many light poles, roof tops, and often on the top of the dome of the Russian Orthodox Church.
We named this one "Henry." He was missing an eye and often hung out just outside the restaurant/bar just below the hotel where we were staying.
We saw these signs around the island warning us to keep clear of their nests. The eagles sometimes attacked people. We heard of one woman getting attacked twice, needing stitches in her head after at least one of the attacks!
When you see a sign like this, you know your not in Kansas anymore (not that I've spent much time in Kansas). This was from the bar below our hotel. Fishermen, those working at the canneries, etc. would frequent the bar and sometimes things got a bit rowdy. It's better if they don't have knives during these times.

Here's a typical (foggy) view from one of the lookouts on Mt. Ballyhoo. Dutch Harbor was a significant place during WW2. It was bombed by the Japanese on June 3-4 of 1942, six months after they bombed Pearl Harbor.
