Road Trip: Denali

Last week, we took a 950 mile road trip that included Denali National Park and Preserve. The weather was amazing, we saw all sorts of wildlife, and we even had a reasonable view of Mt. McKinley (known locally as Denali).

We took the shuttle 53 miles into the park. We highly recommend it.

This is the closest we've been to dall sheep in the wild. Normally they appear as white dots on a hill (see below), but there were several gathered along the side of the road to greet us.

This brown bear crossed the road directly in front of our bus.

These caribou had no trouble crossing the stream.

On the way back from the park's interior, we hiked along a stream which still had a layer of ice. It was a real treat to see a herd of dall sheep with two small lambs graze on the hill.

As we were exiting the park, we spotted this moose cow along with her twin calves. What a day!
